As photographers, we spend our time and energy creating images. The skill of editing a series of images is one of the most important that a photographer develops to properly showcase their talent. Eventually we are faced with building a portfolio with which to represent ourselves on our websites, at portfolio reviews, in contests, creating books, etc.
With the goal of developing portfolios, we are offering a 2 day workshop where we will work on strategies and techniques for editing a body of work. Each participant will bring around 50 images from the same body of work with the goal of editing down to a sequence of 10-20 final photos.
*Participants are recommended to bring 40 to 50 prints (4" x 6").
Day 1 - Wednesday 7 PM - 9 PM, February 28, 2018
We will begin with a brief presentation by photographers who have submitted their portfolios for review and will discuss their editing process. The participants will then break into groups led by our workshop facilitators and work on creating a rough edit of everyone’s work while discussing editing strategies and techniques. We will identify how editing choices are made to fulfill the vision of the body of work as a whole. The homework will be to take home the ideas and skills learned with their rough edit to prepare a final edit for the second class.
Day 2 - Sunday 11 AM - 1 PM, March 4th, 2018
On the second day, everyone will come with their final edit and present it to the group, explaining their process and choices and receive feedback.
*Maximum 9 participants
